I bet you walking up to your parents 10 years ago and saying you want to be a stand-up comedian was tantamount to getting a magnificent beating for utmost stupidity. In some fraction today, you are not allowed to respond to the question what do you want to do when you grow up with, Stand-Up Comedian. Careers have evolved and the usual ones that we grew up learning are either facing challenges or cannot get everyone being a part of them. The ultimate goal of mainstream education was to service the traditional careers (law, medicine, and teaching etc.) but today we need a new form of education to develop and enhance the way we teach children on aligning to careers.
A smart thing happened in the last decade and this was the emergence of interesting careers that people could actually look forward to. These careers made their appearance through conventional means or individuals made every effort for them to be in existence. And today I give reference to Carl Joshua Ncube. I was never really a big fan of comedy but because of the profession I chose (Career Development Practitioner) I had to and I have to know about all careers. Carl Joshua Ncube presented the whole idea of Stand-Up Comedy for me in Zimbabwe and even though there are different guys who were doing it during weddings and different functions as part of MC’ing this dude just made that hustle formal and lucrative to the extent that I could actually glue myself to a laptop watching comedians and even buying a ticket for Carl’s show.
The whole idea of coming up with Careers Zimbabwe is because I constantly believe that every person has a unique element and passion for a specific career of their choice. At that time Carl just presented himself as a pioneer of Stand-Up Comedy in Zimbabwe and I made strides to share his stories and events through Careers Zimbabwe. Today I believe that in my own space and time I am continuously visiting Carl’s Comedy Dome which we are to see later in physical form. The workplace today is no-longer the same, what we see is different from what our parents saw and anticipated for in the workplace. Today we have a different environment which is more welcoming to individuals who are divergent thinkers.
August 17, 2016; is the day that Zimbabwe and the world witness a transformation of the world of careers. Stand UP Comedy will pay-off when the career continues to gain momentum of respect and professionalism. There is no career that is inferior to the other in as much as every individual is important. Our uniqueness in developing our careers will feed into each other to enhance how our lives are lived and lived to ultimate joy. Every individual has a ‘wow’ moment, ‘I can’t believe this’ and ‘Oh My God’ shocking scenario but when one connects to one’s career – element they live in an everyday moment of total exuberance. Me writing this about Carl is a moment of total exuberance and am sure that as Carl is transcending in his career, he is showing someone out there that you can actually be a Stand Up Comedian and there is nothing inferior with that career.
