In 2015 I was elected to be the Enactus Zimbabwe National Social Ambassador. So at first I took this very lightly as I thought oh well its just a mere post. So each and every year there are Enactus World Cup Competitions where different countries get to showcase the social entrepreneurship initiatives they undertook in their countries for that year. For 2016 the WC was in Canada and I just said to myself even if I wanted to how would I be able to raise finances to go and represent the country after all I`m just a student and my mother is a civil servant. Impossible! So at the beginning of the year I had put it as a resolution that I should go for the WC even though I did not know how. It was a very stressful experience imagine looking for funding from January but getting no joy until September. However by God`s grace, I got the ticket a day before the day I was supposed to depart, leaving my mother in debt though.
So I left for Canada and on the way I received an email from the Vice President of Enactus informing me that I had been selected to be one of the Enactus SDG Global Ambassadors in the world and was expected to present on the Global Stage in 2 days time. I was thrilled. Then I thought of the quote by Kelly Rowland “never give up on your dream because you never know what the Lord can bless you with” Surely I can attest to this. I engaged and networked with business people from all over the world and discussed on how we can realize the 11th SDG goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities. Presenting on the World Stage was amazing! Little did I know this was a key to other great things. Due to all this upon coming back home I was honored with two University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Ambassador Awards, Business and Social Networking award and Global Impact award for representing the Country as well as my Institution.
But what does all this teach us? The power of Patience, Perseverance, Action. We all have dreams. It is important to believe in them yes and have faith, but if we do not ACT on them they remain just dreams nothing more. As we ACT on them, there are various obstacles that we face, we should then PERSEVERE in whatever we will be doing so that we realize results. The moment we give up we lose focus and that pulls back. Due to these obstacles, results may not come there and then. It could be a delay as God will have better things planned for you hence it is important to be Patient. If I had decided to give up there would be no International post, no awards, no satisfaction, no self confidence. So as we get to this new year, set your goals, ACT on your goals if you do not realize them it doesn’t mean they can’t happen. Keep Pushing, eventually the door will open and who knows they will slam other doors and they will open up too. The journey was not easy, but now I smile at all the struggles because they unlocked the side of me I didn’t even know myself. To my colleagues, never underestimate the impact a mentor will have on you, I got a mentor through LinkedIn and he was one of the main pioneers in ensuring I realized this goal, if you don’t have one, get one this new year…and yes nothing beats your mother’s love J. Stay blessed and all the best in 2017. Remember, be a Pace Setter!
